The little known but very important Taichung Bike Week was held last week, September 15-19. When it comes to bicycle trade shows, most people think of big convention centers, massive booths, and splashy product launches. But Taichung Bike Week (TBW) in Taiwan takes a very different—and highly effective—approach.
What Makes TBW Unique?
Unlike events such as Eurobike (Germany) or Sea Otter Classic (USA), which focus on consumer demos and media buzz, TBW is strictly business-to-business (B2B). It’s not about selling bikes on the spot or dazzling the public. Instead, it’s about planning the bikes of tomorrow. The event focuses around three main hotels in Taichung where participants tend to stay and do business – meetings and dinners can all take place without travelling to remote locations.
At TBW, product managers from global brands sit down with frame builders, component suppliers, and OEM partners—often in hotel meeting rooms instead of big expo halls—to finalize specifications and lock in supply deals for upcoming model years. This quieter, more personal format makes discussions more efficient and decisions faster.
Why It Matters
Focused Networking: One-on-one meetings encourage deeper collaboration and long-term partnerships.
Efficient Location: With so many factories and suppliers based around Taichung, buyers can meet, then visit production sites within a short drive.
Insider Access: Attendees get an early look at innovations in e-bikes, sustainable materials, and next-gen components—before they hit the public stage at larger shows.
How It Compares
Eurobike (Germany): Huge consumer and media presence, great for product launches and industry visibility.
Interbike (formerly USA): Once a key North American B2B show, now defunct—leaving TBW even more important.
Sea Otter Classic (USA): Part festival, part expo, with a heavy consumer focus.
Taichung Bike Week (Taiwan): Quiet, lean, and targeted—perfect for behind-the-scenes decision-making. It’s business focused, not a ‘show’.
TBW may not grab headlines like Eurobike, but for industry insiders, it’s where the real deals get done. It’s the event that ultimately shapes what the retailers will be stocking and selling and what cyclists will be riding in the years ahead.
The 2026 Taichung Bike Week will take place from September 15 to September 18, 2026.
TBA Chairman Robert Wu emphasized that the association aims to set TBW as a fixed annual event in mid-to-late September, ensuring that international buyers can mark their calendars and make Taichung a must-visit every year.
